Helping families talk to loved ones isolated due to covid-19
Help Us Help Them
Help Us Help Them
Our mission is to help the families affected by the SARS-Covid-19 virus. Patients in quarantine will be able to communicate to family members via video conference.
We will purchase tablets and smartphone devices to configure and prepare them to be 100% plug and play ready for the patients. We are setting these devices up to be as convenient as possible by using commercial apps such as
Facebook Messenger, Instagram, Skype, Google Duo, Whatsapp and Zoom.
We need Tablets and Smartphones.
We are accepting donations to purchase refurbished or new tablets from ebay and amazon.
Also, if you have old devices sitting around, we can repair, refurbish and reload all the necessary software to be ready for a patient.
The tablets will be donated to the hospitals' COVID units. They will be used by quarantined patients to video call family members. In many cases these patients have not seen family for weeks and in the worst cases, these last moments will be precious to the family.
We lost our Grandmother this past November to cancer. The nurses at Saint Catherine's hospital were amazing. They cared for grandma like she was their own. My sister was to marry in 2020 and we knew grandma would not make it to the wedding. In grandmas last days, the nurses in her unit made it possible for grandma to attend Jackies wedding. They setup an empty section of the hospital for a wedding. We called close family friends, including a judge who we've known for years. An hour later Jackie arrived in her gown and Grandma was able to attended her granddaughters wedding in the hospital corridor. She went to sleep 6 hours later and passed 2 days after. Thanks to our nurses at St Catherines Hospital, her last conscious memory was her grandchild's wedding. The nurses' kindness made grandmas' last day a memory we will never forget.
PAYING IT FORWARD. Our health care professionals need help. We are in the nations epicenter of this pandemic. Nassau County has the highest number of cases by county in the nation. Our nurses are watching Covid patients who are isolated from their families. There is no one to give them strength, to give them hope, and in worst cases to give them solace in what can be their last days. It is heart breaking to know someone may pass alone, with their families not being able to say goodbye. Supplying these tablets can ease the pain and worry of not knowing how the patient or their loved ones are doing. Even a brief chat session can set ones mind at ease knowing that they are loved and supported. Covid-19 has no boundaries and a tablet may give a family a final goodbye that they otherwise may not have.
Upon the advent of the coronavirus, we reached out to "our" Nurse Sarah to see what kind of PPE her floor needed. When Sarah came to pick up PPE and masks, she mentioned the lack of available communication for quarantined patients. We immediately thought to gathering smart devices from family and friends, then got to it. Suddenly, Sarah mentioned how she got some tablets donated by her brothers gym (Defined Fitness) who collected donations from the members and community. These donations were used to purchase 30 tablets. However, they were not yet setup for what they needed, and doing so would take forever.
We volunteered to automate a process to quickly configure these tablets thru the use of other computers connected to them. We setup 30 tablets in under 6 hours and are now able to do them in bulk. With proper funding for more tablets, we can get them to other hospital COVID units and nursing homes.
This is where we are reaching out to the community. Through your donations in either old unused tablets, or funds to buy new ones we will set them up and make sure they get to hospitals and retirement homes.
We make this promise. Your donation will be used to purchase tablets, supplies and towards repair of old devices to be ready for donation.
